SAINT ETIENNE - FOXBASE ALPHA (1991)

Sounds like if Ace of Base, Lush, and TLC had a baby, very crazy/sexy/cool. A few songs on this album are just repetitive electro beats with repetitive vocal samples, reminds me a lot of the sound collages of The Books. They also rap sometimes. I feel inspired by this music, it seems to draw from a very diverse/eclectic range of influences while maintaining an uncomplicated pop purity. In 2010 they made a Christmas album titled 'A Glimpse of Stocking' and they recently recorded the theme song and incidental music for Maryoku Yummy, a children's television show. Enjoy this Neil Young cover, download link below.

ROY HARPER - FLAT BAROQUE AND BERSERK (1970)

Huge fan of Roy. Although his body of work is massive, I'm partial to this album because of this one song-- 'Another Day.' I wanna cry every time I hear it. Also, both Kate Bush + Peter Gabriel and This Mortal Coil covered this song and I literally can't stop crying when I think about those songs. So beautiful. Also his name is Roy-- as in ROY G BIV the rainbow guy. Roy is the best name. Roy fucking rules.

TONES ON TAIL - EVERYTHING! (1998)

Basically all I've been listening to lately is this one Tones on Tail compilation. This is a side project of Daniel Ash from Bauhaus, but in my opinion it sounds nothing like it. There are obviously a lot of very dark influences that carried over, but the songs take on a more experimental vibe- at times, even poppy. Each track is unique to itself, representing a wide spectrum of shitty emotions. Enjoy!

MACHU PICCHU

This man is some kind of reincarnation of an ancient Incan shaman. Completely obsessed with this video and Machu Picchu in general-- most haunted place on earth.

OFEGE - TRY AND LOVE (1973)

This band was formed by a bunch of high school students in Lagos, Nigeria. Definitely represents the typical funk of Afro-pop, but with guitar-driven psych freakouts. Really unique for this genre. Sort of reminds me of a sadder, darker, funkier Zombies. Highly recommend.

CHROME - THE VISITATION (1976)

From Wikipedia:

Chrome took part of their inspiration for their rough and sometimes chaotic music from punk pioneers like The Stooges. The sound of the group was often coarse and featured heavy elements of feedback and distortion. Their experiments in mixing synthesized noise with rock instrumentation have been cited as a forerunner of industrial rock music.

Sounds like if Can jammed with Santana in a basement, very psychedelic. Look how cool these guys are--

I can telepathically hear them saying 'fuck u' in this photo. Enjoy!
